What is an End of Life Doula?

Also known as Death Doulas or Soul Midwives, an End of Life Doula is someone who has been called to serve those nearing the end of their lives. They are a steady, calm, and objective presence; providing emotional support, resources, education, and companionship. End of Life Doulas aim to provide their clients with a peaceful and meaningful death, without judgment or imposed beliefs.

What does an End of Life Doula do?

As an End of Life Doula, I will educate, empower, and advocate for my clients and their families. I companion my clients, hold space for their journey, witness their stories, and provide support before, during, and after the death process. I work alongside caregivers and medical professionals to restore the sacredness and human touch needed during this important time. I will create a personalized care plan to tend to my clients dignity, senses, and values while cultivating peace, acceptance and providing emotional comfort.

I will be there to support my client’s loved ones as well; giving respite from bedside vigil, providing resources, comfort, and companionship throughout the entire journey.

What will an End of Life Doula NOT do?

1. Perform any medical responsibilities such as but not limited to: administering medication, physically assisting patient movements, making medical decisions, or speaking to medical or care staff on behalf of clients/caregivers.

2. Provide legal services or advice.

3. Provide professional psychological care or advice.

**Clients will be encouraged to express their thoughts, questions, and concerns to the appropriate professionals through coaching, counseling, and support.
